Griffins Close In, But Lady Rams Land Victory

1/12/2013 8:23:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/12/2013) – The determined spirit of senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and the hot hand of sophomore guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) helped Chestnut Hill College close in on Philadelphia University at the end of each half, but the Griffins fell short in a 55-46 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision to cross-town rival, Lady Rams. Three Lady Rams finished in double figures, while Alexander and Gorcyznski combined for 25 points.

After trailing by seven points, 48-41, with 6:17 remaining in the contest, Chestnut Hill College (2-12, 0-7) came to within two points, 48-46, of Philadelphia University (8-6, 5-3) only two minutes later (4:12) on a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J). Unfortunately the home team's headway melted faster than it was built, as the Lady Rams used a couple of Griffin miscues and rebounded their way to a 7-0 closing run on game-clinching free throws. Senior forwards Kristen Blye (Chester Spring, Pa.) and senior forward Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa.) provided the final shots from the charity stripe and led the Lady Rams three double-digit scorers. Blye was the top performer with 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks while Peltzer offered 11 points, hitting 3-of-4 (75.0%) from long range, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. They were backed by the reserve effort of sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa.), who scored 11 points off the Lady Ram bench, and freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa.) who provided a team-high 11 rebounds and while serving as the defensive anchor with three blocks and a steal.

Alexander finished as the high scorer for the Griffins with 13 points. She also provided five assists while helping freshman guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) captain the defensive effort. McDonough contributed a block and four steals. Alexander offered a block and two steals. Gorczynski hit 4-of-8 (50.0%) from beyond the arch, it was her shooting that frustrated the Lady Rams in the first half and beat the halftime clock to tie the teams heading to intermission, 28-28. Junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) led the Griffins inferior rebounding performance, 41-33, with nine boards.

The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, January 15, when they travel to Goldey-Beacom College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
