Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/17/2012) – Breaking news on campus last week, Chestnut Hill College Director of Athletics and Recreation,
Lynn Tubman revealed a new addition to the College's Athletic programming, “I am pleased to announce that Chestnut Hill College will be adding men's and women's indoor and outdoor track as intercollegiate sport programs for the 2013-2014 season.” The primary goal in adding these new intercollegiate programs is to focus on strengthening the development of the College's distance running programs.
Tubman continued, “Adding Track will provide our current cross country teams the opportunity for the growth and year round competition. In addition, track will raise the quantity and quality of prospects interested in running at Chestnut Hill College. Coach Reilly is eager to develop our distance running programs, and we are excited to be providing our student-athletes with additional NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II offerings.” Enthusiastic about the announcement and opportunity, Coach Reilly added, "I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead the track program. I think we can do great things here at CHC (Chestnut Hill College) and I look forward to the process." Competitive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II student-athletes are running year round, and adding indoor and outdoor track will enhance the current cross country programs at Chestnut Hill College. With easy access to the trails at Fairmount Park and the Valley Green Inn, coupled with the College's relationships with local High Schools' track facilities, Chestnut Hill College is a prime location to attract talented track student-athletes. A secondary emphasis will be placed on the recruitment of sprinters and field events participants. The teams will be competing in the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) during the 2013-14 seasons. Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach,
Philip Reilly, will oversee the recruitment and growth of the new track programs.
