Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Performer of the Year, Gwynedd-Mercy College's junior Rachel Fein (Blue Bell, Pa.), Chestnut Hill College offered half of the honorees for the second year in a row. Seniors,
Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia), were joined on the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) academic all-area team by junior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio). Nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 collegiate institutions in the greater Philadelphia area, Philly-SIDA's
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams recognize student-athletes who excel in the classroom, 3.20 GPA or better, and in their sport of choice.
Repeating as the
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Performer of the Year, Fein earned her third straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year award after leading the Griffins to their four consecutive CSAC title. The Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, native, was 19-0 at number one singles and contributed to a 15-1 number one doubles standing with sophomore Gabby Muller (Washington Township, N.J.), while achieving a 3.73 grade point average (GPA) as an education major, special/early education minor, at Gwynedd Mercy College.
Parapouras was recognized earlier this spring as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District performer. Posting a 22-4 singles record; 21-3 at number three, and an 18-9 doubles mark in her senior season, Parapouras continued a remarkable collegiate career that included a College-record 115 career wins (115-29, .799 combined), three All-CACC selections, a 2012 Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, and a 2013 Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis Coach's Award. As the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region's #19 individual competitor and #4 doubles partner, Parapouras was the College's first women's tennis player to reach 100 career wins doing so with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-5, number three singles victory over Florida Institute of Technology's (FIT) freshman Chloe Chanley (Louisville, Ky.) on February 23. Academically, Parapouras graduated from Chestnut Hill College Departmental Honors program, Cum Laude, with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She is a multiple selection to the Chestnut Hill College Athletics Academic Honor Roll (Fall 2010-Fall 2012), the Chestnut Hill College Dean's List (Spring 2010 – Spring 2013), and as an ITA Scholar-Athlete (2011 and 2012).
Shcherbakova was an All-CACC First Team selection for the third time, posting a 16-10 individual mark while contributing to a 19-9 number one doubles standing. She held the ITA East Region's #8 Individual Ranking and partnered with Parapouras as the region's #4 ranked doubles team; 11-7 at number one doubles. She collected the 100
th win of her collegiate career with Parapouras at her side in an 8-4 doubles victory at Queens College on March 31 and she was recognized with her second team Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at season's end.
Dennis was also third time All-CACC selection as she joined Parapouras on the league's Second Team. As the ITA East Region's #13 individual competitor, Dennis finished the 2012-2013 season at 15-9 overall and 12-7 at number two singles. Her final individual win of the regular season, 6-2, 6-0 over Philadelphia University's freshman Kaylee Fennern (Idaho Falls, Idaho), served as the 100
th of her collegiate career, making her the third Griffin to reach the milestone during the 2012-2013 season. When paired with sophomore
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.), Dennis also played a role on the ITA East Region's #7 doubles team; 10-6 at number two doubles.
