Philadelphia Reign arriving in City of Brotherly Love

Philadelphia Reign
Chestnut Hill College is proud to announce the arrival of the Philadelphia Reign — a professional sports team from the Women's Basketball Development Association. Playmakers Basketball Royalties owner and CEO Tamika Milburn said she purchased the Reign to bring a women's basketball team that is committed to improving opportunities for youth through sports back to her hometown.

Beginning in May, the Reign will play its home games at Chestnut Hill College in the Ann Rusnack-Sorgenti Arena. Jesse Balcer, director of athletics at Chestnut Hill College, said he is eager to collaborate with the Reign.

"I am really looking forward to hosting the Philadelphia Reign women's basketball team on our campus this summer," Balcer said. "It is really exciting to know that there will be a professional women's basketball franchise playing in our arena. I hope this collaboration with a professional basketball organization opens up employment opportunities for our men and women at the college."

A press conference announcing the team's arrival in Philadelphia will be held at Chestnut Hill College on March 15 at 11 a.m in Sorgenti Arena. Slated to attend the conference are Tanae Davis-Cain, head coach of the Reign, Jimmelle Melvin, chief marketing officer, and Jumaine Jones, director of basketball operations and former Philadelphia 76er.

In January, Davis-Cain, a former WNBA player and Florida State alum, was named as head coach of the Reign. A Philadelphia native, Davis-Cain has high expectations and is excited to bring this opportunity to her hometown.

Playmakers Basketball Royalties is a woman- and veteran-owned organization whose mission is to provide an avenue for high-caliber players to advance or restart their careers while giving back to the community. The organization also owns the Atlanta Monarchs, the first professional WDBA team to bring a national title to Atlanta. Milburn is confident the same level of success will occur in Philadelphia, too, where she believes the team will be a tremendous addition to its already historic and thriving sports scene.
