Finore Named CACC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Maniscalco Garners Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. - (9/17/2019) – For their part in a 0-0 regulation tie with Salem International University, on Friday, September 13, seniors Stephen Finore (Broomall, Pa.) and Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) were respectively recognized with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award and a Weekly Honor Roll mention. The Griffins put six shots on goal and the Tigers offered five, but neither side was successful as Maniscalco and freshman Luis Felipe Ramirez (?) made all the saves they needed to in order to keep the affair scoreless.
Salem International University (0-2-1) sailed a couple shots over the crossbar before truly testing Maniscalco at 33:49. The first Chestnut Hill College (1-1-1) shot on goal came six minutes later (39:57), when Finore gave a go at Ramirez. Unfortunately, he did not find the goal, neither did senior midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil), whose first shot was stopped just minutes later (41:10). In the second half, the Griffins took it right back at the Tigers as junior forward Lucas de Sa (Bahia, Brazil) and Finore respectively fired the first shots of the closing frame at 49:26 and 52:24. In fact, Scarlet and Gold held an edge the rest of the way as they outshot Salem International University 10-4 in the final 45 minutes.
Dutra led Chestnut Hill College’s chances, putting three of his four shots on goal. The Griffins totaled 13 shots with Dutra’s four being supported by two apiece from Finore and de Sá, and additional attempts from senior midfielder Mo Ehmer (Staines, England), junior forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.), senior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany), sophomore midfielder Mustaf Nuredini (Norristown, Pa.), and freshman midfielder Cesar May Casteneda (Exton, Pa.). Maniscalco totaled five saves in the tie (1-0-1).
