Ramos Triple-Doubles Draw CACC Women’s Volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week Awards

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/20/2019) – Offering a pair of triple-doubles in a 1-1 week of competition versus the University of the Sciences (USciences, L, 2-3; 20-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 11-15, on September 18) and Adelphi University (W, 3-2; 21-25, 31-29, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12, on September 20), Chestnut Hill College freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) earned a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week title and sole possession of the CACC Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week award. Ramos totaled 32 kills on a .424 (32K-4E-66TA) hitting percentage, while providing the Scarlet and Gold with 36 assists, four aces, 23 digs, and three block assists.

On Wednesday, September 18, Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 0-1) traveled down the 76 East to open their CACC schedule with a match at cross-city rival, USciences. The Devils used their home court advantage to open the match with wins of 25-20 and 25-21 (0-2). In the third set, the Scarlet and Gold reversed the momentum with an efficient .379 (15K-4E-29TA) hitting percentage that spurred them to a 25-18 (1-2) victory in that frame and a 25-22 (2-2) victory in the next (2-2). Unfortunately, USciences set the tone in the deciding frame, pacing Chestnut Hill College to a 15-11 conclusion (3-2). Ramos was the top performer, totaling a team-high 16.5 points (15 kills, 1 ace, 1 block assist), 19 assists, and 10 digs.

Two days later, on Friday, September 20, the Scarlet and Gold thrilled the intimate Sorgenti Arena crowd with a 3-2 (21-25, 31-29, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12) triumph over Adelphi University (4-2). After a 25-21 (0-1) loss to the Panthers in the opening set, Chestnut Hill College used a marathon 31-29 (1-1) victory to aid a 25-22 (2-1) win in the third set. The Panthers evened the spread, 2-2, with a solid 25-21 (2-2) win, but the Griffins were the victors in the end as they played well off the pass of senior right side Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) for an 15-12 (3-2) end. Ramos was Chestnut Hill College’s top performer, supplying 21.0 points in a second straight triple-double effort that included 17 kills, 17 assists, 13 digs. She also recorded three aces and a pair of block assists.
