Bronxville, N.Y. - (10/5/2019) – Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) totaled a team-high 34.5 points (31 kills, 7 block assists) to make her third appearance on the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll, but it was freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), who was the star of the Griffins’ wins over Post University (W, 3-0; 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 on October 4) and Concordia College (NY) (W, 3-1; 14-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 on October 5) as she earned her second CACC Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week title with 20 kills – on a .415 (20K-3E-41TA) hitting percentage - 46 assists, two aces, 24 digs, and three block assists (23.5 points).
Chestnut Hill College (7-7, 4-2) made quick work of Post University (0-16, 0-5) on Friday (October 4) night, sweeping the Eagles 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17). The Scarlet and Gold used six and seven-point runs in the middle of the first set to open up a 17-8 lead and never looked back, taking the opener by 11 points; 25-14. The Eagles could not change their fortunes in the next set, falling behind 4-0 from the start and watching Chestnut Hill College go on long runs before eventually taking the set by a matching 25-14 final. The third set started with another long run, putting Chestnut Hill College ahead 6-0 before the Eagles finally sided out. Post University reeled the Griffins within three points midway through that final set, 15-12, but the home team eventually took the frame by a 25-17 end. The Griffins recorded a .348 (47K-8E-112TA) hitting percentage in the match, led by Kalala who finished with a career-high .625 (15K-0E-24TA) hitting percentage. She totaled 15 kills off the performance and added a dig and a block assist for good measure. Ramos offered eight kills on a .438 (8K-1E-16TA) hitting percentage. She paired that with 20 assists, eight digs, and two block assists.
A vengeful Chestnut Hill College took the court after dropping the opening set of Saturday night’s CACC match at Concordia College (NY); 25-14. In a gritty performance, the Griffins rallied and paced for back-to-back 25-23 wins in the second and third sets, before securing a 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20) league win with a 25-20 victory in the fourth frame. Kalala crushed with 19 points (16 kills, 6 block assists) and recorded a pair of digs, while Ramos directed the Scarlet and Gold to success with a 12-kill, 26-assist, 16-dig triple-double; her fourth such effort of the season.
