Broville’s 4-0 Mark Versus Devils and Chargers Earns Third CACC Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll Appearance
New Haven, Conn. - (10/15/2019) – Following a 1-1 week against league competition, senior Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll appearance thanks to a 4-0 individual record that included pairs of wins at number one doubles and number two singles. It was Broville’s third Weekly Honor Roll appearance of the season as she also garnered recognition on September 10 and September 24.
Chestnut Hill College (5-5, 4-3) traveled down the 76 to the University of Pennsylvania's Hamlin Center for this afternoon CACC competition versus the University of the Sciences (USciences) (4-4, 4-1). The Devils earned the league victory by a 5-2 measure, winning the doubles point with bookend wins in the third (6-0) and first (6-2) flights, and taking four out of six singles points. Broville was the only Griffin to record wins in both formats, first teaming with seniors Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) for a mid-round 6-2 win at number two doubles, before reporting a 6-2, 6-2, win at number singles. Chestnut Hill College also won the point at number three singles with a 6-2, 6-1, win from freshman Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain).
Chestnut Hill College got back in the win column on Saturday, October 12, with a decisive 7-0 CACC victory at Dominican College (3-8, 2-6). The Griffins posted wins in the first (6-2) and second (6-1) team flights to secure the doubles point. A sweep of the following individual round ensured the Scarlet and Gold the league prize. Broville and Covic won number one doubles by a 6-2 measure. Chestnut Hill College procured the doubles point with their next victory; a 6-1 number two doubles win by Garcia Arguelles and senior Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.). The Scarlet and Gold built off their doubles success with six straight singles wins. Covic won number one singles, 6-4, 6-0. Broville took the second flight, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. Garcia Arguelles and Yang respectively won at number three and number four singles with matching 6-4, 6-2, scores. Sophomore Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) endured for a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win at number five singles and junior Mariana Sanchez (Trenton, N.J.) triumphed at number six singles, 6-3, 6-1.
