New Haven, Conn. - (10/15/2019) – Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded 45.0 points in a 1-2 week of league play to earn her fourth appearance – and second in a row – on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll. Kalala recorded double digit kills in each match, including a dozen (12) in a 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21) over Jefferson on October 8 and 18 in a career-best 21.5-point performance at Felician University (L, 2-3; 16-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 13-15) on October 12.
Chestnut Hill College (8-9, 5-4) extended their recent four-game CACC winning streak to five matches with Tuesday night's 3-1 (5-12, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21) triumph over South Division rival, Jefferson (9-7, 4-3). The Griffins set the tone early, using an early 9-6 advantage to take the first set by a decisive 25-12 spread. Momentum carried to the second set as the Scarlet and Gold grabbed a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win. The Lady Rams looked to get back into the contest with a strong third set, but their 25-16 win was not enough to derail a hot Chestnut Hill College squad that secured the league win with a 25-21 fourth-set final. Four Griffins finished the evening with double digit points; Kalala (12 kills, 2 block assists) and freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) (12 kills, 1 ace), were the best among them with 13.0 points apiece. With 12 kills, Kalala recorded at least 10 points in each of Chestnut Hill College's last five wins.
Chestnut Hill College visited Wilmington University (12-7, 4-3) for Thursday evening's CACC South Division match. The Wildcats welcomed the Griffins with wins of 25-14 and 25-11 in the opening sets. The Scarlet and Gold recovered with a 25-22 win in the third set, but the victory was not enough to sway the momentum as Wilmington University ended the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set. Senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) led Chestnut Hill College with 12.5 points as she added 10 digs and a block assist to a team and season-high 12 kills, that she achieved on a .229 (12K-4E-35TA) hitting percentage. Kalala joined Byxbee in double digit kills, scoring 10; it was her sixth straight match of 10 kills or more. She also recorded two digs and a block assist.
Saturday’s CACC match came down to a deciding set as Chestnut Hill College and Felician University (9-12, 7-1) traded wins in the first four frames of the affair. The Golden Falcons took the first and third by matching 25-16 finals, while the Griffins interrupted any hope of an early end with respective wins of 25-17 and 25-21 in the second and fourth sets. In the fifth set, Felician University paced the Scarlet and Gold to a 15-13 end that secured the match in their favor; 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 13-15). Kalala led the Griffins in points, scoring a career-high 21.5 with 18 kills, two solo blocks, and three block assists. She added a dig to her 21.5 points.
