Gannon Debut Draws ECC Women’s Bowling Rookie of the Week Award, Brogna Earns Honor Roll Recognition
West Babylon, N.Y. - (10/17/2019) – Freshman Madeline Gannon (Glenolden, Pa.) recorded the highest frame average (18.51 pins/frame) of any league freshman during last week’s opening weekend of competition, earning herself the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women’s Bowling Rookie of the Week award. Meanwhile, senior Stephanie Brogna (Morganville, N.J.) led Chestnut Hill College to a 4-1 performance in traditional play at the Bud Whitman Memorial with a 191.5 scoring average to earn a spot on the ECC Women’s Bowling Weekly Honor Roll. Gannon also led the Griffins in makeable spare percentage, completing 84.6 percent of her opportunities.
Last weekend at Berks Lanes, in Sinking Springs, Pennsylvania, Chestnut Hill College (7-3) finished 10th of 14 (3W-2L, 4,454 pins) in the Bud Whitman Memorial Baker Tournament and 7th of 14 (4W-1L, 4,536 pins) in the Bud Whitman Memorial Traditional Tournament. On day one of the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament, Chestnut Hill College grabbed wins over Bloomfield College (W, 922-743), Wilmington University (W, 969-879), and defending East Coast Conference (ECC) Champions, Caldwell University (W, 878-839). Junior Laura Oliver (Bayville, N.J.) led the team, filling 84.6% of her frames. On day two, the Scarlet and Gold concluded the event with a 7-3 record with four consecutive wins over Mt. Aloysius College (W, 875-849), Coppin State University (W, 951-884), Howard University (W, 1,003-905), and Felician University (W, 830-801). Brogna recorded her high game of 213 in the win over Coppin State University and led the team in average for the day with 191.5 pins-per-frame. Meanwhile, Gannon’s high game of 215 came in the Griffins’ victory over Howard University. She finished second on the team in average with 187.3 pins-per-frame.
