New Haven, Conn. - (11/18/2019) – With Wednesday’s (November 13) 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20) season finale victory over South Division rival Jefferson, Chestnut Hill College matched the program’s highest single-season (2014: 14-16) and conference (2016: 11-8) win totals en route to its first winning season; 14-13 (11-8 CACC). Leading the effort was the first career triple-double for senior middle hitter Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.), who totaled included a season-high 16 kills on a .306 (16K-5E-36TA) hitting percentage, 15 assists, and 15 digs. Callahan was rewarded for her performance with an Honor Roll mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Report.
Chestnut Hill College (14-13, 11-8) has had Jefferson’s (17-10, 12-6) number this season as the Griffins completed their sweep of the Rams with a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20) victory. The Scarlet and Gold scored the first two points of the first set and never looked back, pacing Jefferson to a 25-18 opening victory. Unfortunately, the Rams recovered in the second set, gradually pulling away from the Griffins for 25-22 win. In a well-played third set, the Scarlet and Gold shined brighter as their .341 hitting percentage and 75% side-out effort that included four kills apiece from Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), and Callahan. The extended-set victory inspired Chestnut Hill College to a decided 25-20 win in the fourth, and final, frame.
