Regan’s Sorgenti Debut Delivers CACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Appearance
New Haven, Conn. - (12/2/2019) – Freshman guard Conor Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J.) led the Griffins in scoring in his Sorgenti Arena debut, recording 16 points, three rebounds, five assists, and steal in a 95-74 loss to #12 West Chester University. The performance earned Regan his first appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
Chestnut Hill College (0-6) hung around with West Chester University (8-0) for the first half of Saturday’s post-holiday action as they paced the Golden Rams to a 14-13 spread with 15:52 remaining in the opening frame and remained within 10 points of the visitors until a set of free throws from freshman guard Robbie Heath (Whittlesea, Australia) pushed the deficit to 11 points, 41-30, with 3:28 to play until halftime. West Chester University continued to put space between themselves and the Griffins in the second half, expanding their lead to 17 points (63-46) on a Robbie three pointer at 15:37. Regan immediately set up fellow freshman, Julius Phillips (Philadelphia, Pa.) for a jumper (60-46, 15:48) and hit the second of his two three point baskets to cut the Golden Ram lead to 14 points, 63-49, just before the 15-minute mark (15:18). Unfortunately, the Chestnut Hill College rally was brief, knocking the West Chester University edge to single digits, 67-58 (11:08), before a Golden Ram reprisal reestablished their double digit advantage (68-58, 9:41) and gradually grew the final spread to 21 points; 95-74.
Regan was 5-of-12 (.417) from the floor and added a perfect 4-of-4 (1.000) performance at the free throw to reach his season-high, 16 points. His five assists also served as a team-high and matched his assist total from his collegiate debut in the Griffins’ 98-87 season-opening loss at the College of St. Rose (November 9).
