Spann Secures CACC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Award with Career Night versus Panthers
New Haven, Conn. - (12/16/2019) – In a spirited performance, freshman guard Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) provided a season-high 25 points and a team-high nine rebounds during Chestnut Hill College’s recent 89-61 loss to Adelphi University. Despite the final outcome, Spann’s garnered the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award.
Chestnut Hill College (0-9) fell to Adelphi University (8-3), 89-61, in Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, December 14. The Panthers found the hot hand early, jumping out to a 31-9 (11:30) lead midway through the first half thanks to 11-of-23 (.478) three-point shooting performance. Spann and sophomore guard James Rider IV (Baltimore, Md.) led the Scarlet and Gold rally, which cut the deficit to nine points, 36-27, on a Spann three pointer 7:28 before halftime. Unfortunately, Adelphi University closed the opening frame with a 15-4 run that mired Chestnut Hill College behind a 20-point, 51-31, halftime spread. The Panthers only added to their perch in the second half, expanding their lead beyond 30 points (63-31, 16:27) in the first four minutes and as many as 40 points (79-39, 10:09) before a fleeting Scarlet and Gold reprisal reduced the final margin to 28 points; 89-61.
The Griffins had nine different players finish with points, including Spann’s season-high, 25-point performance. Spann was 8-of-17 (.471) from the floor – 2-of-4 (.500) from three - and 7-of-9 (.778) from the free throw line, while offering nine, a block, and a steal.
