New Haven, CT – (11/1/2011) – Senior forward
Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) was rewarded with an honorable mention for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award after providing four goals in a superb send-off performance. In his final week of collegiate play, Reid scored a critical game-tying goal in the CACC win over Philadelphia University on Tuesday October 25, before accounting for all three Griffin goals in a 3-2 overtime win against the University of Pitt-Johnstown (UPJ) on Friday, October 28.
A Reid penalty shot tied Chestnut Hill College (7-10-1, 4-7-0) with UPJ just after halftime (49:53), 1-1. A little bit later, his rebound goal gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 65:31, and then 2:46 into overtime he netted the game-winner, 3-2. He scored his first goal on a penalty kick at 49:53, his second goal came at 65:31 on the rebound of a strike from junior midfielder
Mark Pugliese (Philadelphia, PA), and his third came off a long pass down the right sideline from sophomore defenseman
Darius Gbunblee (Philadelphia, PA). Reid quieted the ball before striking it to the back of the UPJ net for his first collegiate hat trick. He totaled seven shots in the game to lead the Griffins to a 25-7 shot advantage and a 6-3 corner kick edge. Reid led the Griffins in goals (12, 2nd), points (27, 4th), and shots (68, 2nd) this season while ranking among the CACC’s top five in each of those categories. He is the program's all-time leader in goals (18), points (42), and shots (144) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level.
The men’s soccer team finished the 2011 season at 7-10-1 overall and 4-7 in the CACC.
