CACC Names Jones Rookie of the Week
New Haven, CT – (11/21/2011) – Chestnut Hill College freshman guard,
Lila Jones (Lansdale, PA) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week after averaging 9.0 points-per-game (PPG) and 5.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG) over a 0-2 week for the Griffins. Jones provided six points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a loss at Molloy College on Monday, November 14, before totaling 12 points, three rebounds, and four assists in a loss at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Saturday, November 19.
Against NYIT, Chestnut Hill College (0-3) owned a nine-point lead with 14:34 still to play in the opening period thanks, in part, to Jones’ early offensive execution. The Griffins were able to keep the lead for a majority of the second half and commanded NYIT (2-1) by as many as eight points, 54-46, as the affair closed in on the 11-minute mark (11:23). Unfortunately, over time 32 Griffin turnovers outweighed a 43-33 rebounding edge and a superior shooting percentage, 48.0% (24-of-50) to 41.2% (28-of-68), which allowed the Bears to rally for victory in the final five minutes. Through three contests with the Griffins, Jones is averaging 8.0 PPG and 4.3 RPG while also recording nine assists and two steals.
The women’s basketball team continues their opening run of road games with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Lock Haven University on Monday, November 28.
