Humes Makes Third Appearance on CACC Weekly Release
New Haven, CT – (4/18/2012) – Freshman
Mike Humes (Medford, NJ) was recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Release for the third time, earning his second honorable mention for the league’s Player and Rookie of the Week awards. Humes was 2-1 in both singles and doubles play to help the Griffins to an equally successful week against Dowling College, Philadelphia University, and Bloomfield College.
Chestnut Hill College (11-9) opened a tough week of competition with a home match against Dowling College. Humes and sophomore
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) helped the Griffins grab a 2-1 advantage over the Golden Lions with a 9-8 (7-5) triumph at number two doubles. Unfortunately, the Golden Lions won four of six individual flights to win the match 5-4. The Griffins used the defeat as motivation for a critical 5-4 win over Philadelphia University two days later, Wednesday, April 11. After losing all three doubles matches, the Griffins rallied to win five of six singles flights. Humes set the tone for the comeback with a 6-1, 6-2 win at number one singles and a 9-8 (8-6) win with Ceniceros at number two doubles. Over the weekend, Humes and teamed with sophomore
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) for an 8-2 number one doubles win against Bloomfield College on Saturday, April 14. Humes won number one singles as well in the 9-0 shutout, 6-1, 6-4.
