Griffins Return to CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. – (9/12/2012) – For the second straight week, two Griffins appeared on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Weekly Report as freshman Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) was retained the league’s Rookie of the Week title while junior Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned an honorable mention for Player of the Week award.
Chestnut Hill College (4-0, 3-0) got a strong start on their CACC schedule with back-to-back conference wins over Philadelphia University, 8-1 on September 6, and Caldwell College, 9-0 on September 7. Williams-Mulesa continued her perfect season with a four-win week. First against the Lady Rams, winning number five singles, 6-1, 6-0, and number three doubles, 8-4, with freshman Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.). Then against the Cougars, she won number three singles, 8-0, and number two doubles with Owens, 8-1. Williams-Mulesa was the CACC Rookie of the Week on the league first report, released September 5, 2012.
Dennis won three matches last week, winning a number one singles match against Philadelphia University’s top individual competitor 6-3, 6-2, and teaming with senior Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) for two victories in number one doubles. The top Griffin duo first won 8-1 over the top Lady Ram team, before topping the top Cougars team by the same final, 8-1.
The women's tennis team continues their CACC schedule at home on Saturday, September 15, when Concordia College (NY) visits campus for a 12:00 p.m. match.
