After scoring the first run in a 4-2, game-one, loss Chestnut Hill College (1-1) gave way to a four-run NYIT (3-1) fourth inning. The Griffins dominated game two with Rush holding the Bears to one run on five hits in a 5-1 victory. Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and an error by the Bear shortstop permitted two more Griffins to score before the end of the frame, 4-1. Each side platted a run in the fifth inning and went scoreless in the sixth inning to leave the spread at 5-2 heading to the final at-bats. In the seventh inning, Rush (1-0) retired the Bears in four batters to earn the Griffins their first win of the season.
The softball team will host Philadelphia University next in a 2:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 7.
