Timony Takes Share of CACC Player of the Week Award

New Haven, Conn. – (3/11/2013) – Senior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, N.J.) totaled eight goals, an assist, two ground balls, five draws, and a caused turnover in Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team’s 0-2 opening week to earn a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week title. She offered five goals, an assist, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the Griffins 10-9 loss to Ft. Lewis College on March 4 and then contributed three goals in effort to rally the Griffins in a 16-9 loss to Mercy on March 9.

Chestnut Hill College (0-2) hosted Fort Lewis College this afternoon in a wildly competitive season opener on March 4. Timony registered the affair’s first tally, 3-1 (19:00), and after one goal from the Seahawks, 4-1 at 16:38, one goal from freshman midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.), 4-2 at 15:11, and two more Timony tallies (13:16 & 7:02) the score was all tied up at 4-4. Each side would score twice more before the break, leaving the halftime spread at 6-6. The Griffins took a 9-7 lead into the final 14 minutes. Unfortunately, the Seahawks controlled play late as they scored the contest's last three goals for a 10-9 win. Junior midfielder Ally Kvidera (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Seahawks with four goals, four ground balls, two draws and two caused turnovers; meanwhile, Timony captained the Griffin effort with five goals, an assist, two ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers.

Against Mercy College, the first five minutes were quiet But once Mercy College (3-0) senior midfielder Brittany Ott (Copiague, N.Y.) broke the silence at 25:37, 1-0, the scoring continued. Senior attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, N.Y.) issued the Griffins answer just 42 seconds later, 1-1 (24:55), but it was followed by consecutive Maverick goals at 23:19 and 22:48 to leave the home team down 3-1. Senior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, Pa.) scored at 15:34 to cut the deficit to 3-2, but soon after, two scores from sophomore Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y.) reestablished the Maverick lead at 5-2 and forced the Griffins into their first timeout. Reunited, the home team narrowed the gap to one once more thanks to two consecutive Timony strikes, 5-4. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Griffins would get with the Mavericks outscoring 2-1 to halftime, 7-5, and 9-4 in the second half, 16-9. Timony hustled to two draws in addition to her scoring.

The women's lacrosse team begins their CACC season with a 4:30 p.m. home contest against Philadelphia University on Tuesday, March 12.
