Faillace and Mattaliano Earn Recognition On Weekly CACC Softball Report
New Haven, Conn. – (3/9/2013) – Headlining the offense in a 2-2 week for Chestnut Hill College softball, freshman third baseman
Francesca Faillace (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior left fielder
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) were recognized for their contributions on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report. With a 1.714 slugging percentage on two doubles and her first two collegiate homeruns Faillace was selected as the CACC Rookie of the Week while Mattaliano batted .600 (6-for-10) and play a stellar left field to earn an honorable mention for the league’s Player of the Week award.
Chestnut Hill College led off this week with history, as the Griffins secured their first five-inning victory against a CACC opponent in game one of a non-conference doubleheader with Philadelphia University, 12-1 (5 inns.), on Thursday, March 7. Mattaliano headlined the offense with a second-inning grand slam, while Faillace mashed a two-run homerun that landed the Griffins an early 12-1 lead. From there freshman pitcher
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) took care of the Lady Rams from the mound. The Griffins completed the sweep behind a 1-0 shutout performance from senior pitcher
Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.).
The Griffins looked to continue their early season success against East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, March 9. Unfortunately, the Warriors broke out from the initial stalemate for a 12-2, five-inning, win, before topping the Griffins 9-4 in game two. Mattaliano was 4-for-5 with two runs-batted-in (RBI) in the twin bill, while freshman third baseman
Francesca Faillace (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit her second collegiate homerun in game two.
The softball team travels to Millersville University for their next doubleheader. The twin bill is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. opening pitch on Wednesday, March 13.
