History Feat Earns Dayter Recognition As CACC Player of the Week

New Haven, Conn. – (3/27/2013) – In a 3-3 week for Chestnut Hill College, freshman pitcher Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) collected all three victories (4-3) while sporting a 0.61 earned run average (ERA) over 23.0 innings of work. She opened up Griffins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3-hit masterpiece as she struck out six in the Griffins 1-0, game-one, victory over Philadelphia University on Wednesday, March 20. Then on Saturday, March 23, Dayter homered and pitched the first no-hitter in program history in the Griffins 3-0, game-one, win over Nyack College.

Dayter got Chestnut Hill College (6-8, 3-1) off to a great start on their CACC schedule with her 3-hit outing against Philadelphia University on Wednesday, March 20. But Saturday, March 23, was the day for Dayter who pitched the College’s first no-hitter and hit a third-inning solo shot in the Griffins game-one victory over Nyack College. Dayter also took the mound for the Griffins in game two of the CACC doubleheader with the Warriors. She engaged the Warriors sophomore pitcher Chelsea Macaluso (Charlotte, N.C.) in a 2-2 eight-inning pitcher's duel that was settled in the ninth inning with a run-scoring single from freshman first baseman Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.), 3-2, and a run-scoring double from Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.), 4-2.

Through 14 games, Dayter is 4-3 with a 2.54 ERA. In 46 innings of work, Dayter has allowed 13 earned runs on 38 hits and nine walks; she has struck out 37 batters and held opposition to a .217 (38-for-175) batting average.

The softball team returns to their CACC schedule at home on Thursday, March 28, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Holy Family University.
