Pizarro Earns Place on CACC Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (9/10/2013) – Lending a foot to each Griffin goal in last week’s contest with Adelphi University and Millersville University, senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) earned a mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll. She first separated junior midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) for an early second-half goal in Chestnut Hill College’s 5-1 season-opening loss to Adelphia University before scoring the lone Griffin goal in a 5-1 loss at Millersville University on Saturday, September 7.

On Thursday, September 5, the Mavericks momentum boiled over in the second half, as the visitors survived a brief Griffin reprise before sealing the victory with three successive scores. Their second goal came just ten minutes into the closing period, 55:56, and would have put the Griffins away early if not for an advantageous exchange between Pizarro and Williams. An error by the Maverick defense allowed Pizarro to win an opportunistic possession and feed a hustling Williams for the Griffins lone goal at 64:37. But, the Panthers were relentless in their pursuit of the Griffin goal, scoring goals at 70:57, 80:08, and 82:01 to secure the win.

With Millersville University controlling much of Saturday’s contest, Pizarro’s first goal of her senior season came off a brilliant pass from sophomore midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.). Thanks to Spinuzza’s perfectly placed pass, Pizarro was able to convert on her breakaway opportunity and bring the Griffins within two, 3-1, just before the final 30 minutes (60:04) of play. Unfortunately, the Griffins could not capitalize as the Marauders used two insurance goals in the final twenty minutes (69:50 and 88:05) to separate for a 5-1 win.

The women’s soccer team returns home to host Bloomsburg University in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, September 10.
