Game-Winner Garners Honor Roll Mention for Amaya
New Haven, Conn. – (9/10/2013) – Earning him a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll, junior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) energized Chestnut Hill College early in their home opener against California University (PA), on Saturday, September 7. Amaya provided the contest’s only score on a tick-tack-toe header that gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead halfway past the ten-minute mark.
Junior midfielder
Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) managed the midfield early in the contest while Amaya pressured the California University (PA) defense with several strong runs at the Vulcan goal. His persistence quickly paid off as he completed a bang-bang exchange from junior midfielder
Hernan Angulo (Lima, Peru) and senior forward
Darryl Richardson Jr. (Washington Township, Pa.) at 10:28 of the opening half, 1-0. The Vulcans attacks only increased after the break, but fortunately, freshman goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) turned away the only three shots he needed to for Chestnut Hill College (1-1) to secure the shutout, 1-0. Amaya also recorded a shot in the Griffins first contest of 2013, a 1-0 loss at Mercy College on Thursday, September 5.
The men’s soccer team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with their next contest, a 4:00 p.m. home game on Wednesday, September 11, against Georgian Court University.
