Melnick and Howell Score Honor Roll Mentions On CACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. – (3/1/2021) – Freshman midfielder Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) and junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) were Chestnut Hill College’s top performers in Saturday’s season-opening loss to #4 Seton Hill University and were recognized today, Monday, March 1, with appearances on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll. Melnick finished his Scarlet and Gold debut with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and a pair of ground balls, while Howell totaled four points with three third-quarter assists and a late fourth-quarter score.
Competition returned to Victory Field #1 for the first time in nearly a year on Saturday, February 27. The Griffins from Seton Hill controlled play early, using a 17-3 halftime edge to facilitate their 24-8 win over the Scarlet and Gold. In his collegiate debut, Melnick led the Chestnut Hill College through the first half, assisting senior attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) on the Griffins' first goal of the game (3-1, 5:47, 1QTR) and recording his first collegiate goal with 11:26 remaining in the second quarter (9-2). Howell took control of the Scarlet and Gold offense in the second half, assisting on all three of Chestnut Hill College’s third-quarter goals (2:35, 0:37, 0:15) before scoring a tally of his own in the fourth quarter (24-7, 11:26). He also recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Tuesday, March 9, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
