Oechsle Owns Share of CACC Player of Week Award

th career win and advancing two wins into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Women’s B Singles Draw, junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) was selected to share the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week title.
For the Griffins women, the week opened with jubilation as a 5-4 victory at Concordia College (NY), on Tuesday, September 17, not only snapped the Clippers 34-CACC match win streak but also marked the 100
th career coaching victory for Coach Stroble. After collecting an 8-4 win at number two doubles, Oechsle and sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) gave #50 Chestnut Hill College (3-0, 2-0) an early 2-1 advantage with an 8-6 victory at number three doubles. The Griffins carried their energy to singles play where individual wins in the third, fifth, and sixth flights sealed the milestone. Oechsle offered her individual win at number five singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Friday was a double victory for Chestnut Hill College tennis as both the men's and women side scored wins over Merrimack College. The Griffin women came back from a 2-1 doubles deficit to defeat the Warriors 6-3. Oechsle and sophomore
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) were the only Griffins to win in the opening round of women's doubles. They came away with an 8-3 win at number three doubles, but with wins of 8-5 and 9-8 (8-6) at number one and number two doubles, respectively, Merrimack College (1-1) took the round 2-1. Fortunately, the Griffins played better as individuals, taking match five of six flights for the 6-3 win. Oechsle provided the point at number five singles with a 6-2, 6-2.
At the ITA East Regionals, Oechsle enjoyed two wins in each draw. In the Women’s B Double Draw, Oechsle teamed with Owens for an 8-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) sophomores Elizabeth Worth (Long Valley, N.J.) and Allison Valentine (New Hartford, Conn.), before earning a second win, 9-7, over Stonehill College’s sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine) and junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I.). In the Women’s B Singles Draw, Oechsle scored back-to-back 8-4 wins over Molloy College’s senior Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France) and Goldey-Beacom College’s junior Filipa Correia (Lisboa, Portugal) before bowing out in an 8-1 loss to SNHU’s Lawrence.
The women’s tennis team returns to their CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 24, when they visit Holy Family University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
