Jackson Repeats as CACC Rookie of the Week
New Haven, Conn. – (10/7/2013) – In his only appearance during the Griffins 1-0-1 week, freshman goalkeeper
James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) recorded his fifth shutout of the season with eight saves in Chestnut Hill College’s 2-0 defeat of Caldwell College on Saturday, October 5. The triumph landed Jackson his second straight stint as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week, which he also claimed along with the league’s defensive award for the week ending September 29.
Shots were even at the midway point, but Caldwell College (4-6, 2-4) put the early pressure on Chestnut Hill College (5-3-2, 4-1-1) and Jackson, in particular. The Griffin keeper denied seven of the Cougars ten first-half attempts, but his strikers went scoreless as well, leaving the CACC rivals to a 0-0 tie at intermission. After the halftime break, it was the Griffins who controlled the ball. On an early offensive progression, junior forward
Channing Couillard (Jacksonville, Fla.) carried the ball through the midfield before sending senior midfielder
Hernan Angulo (Lima, Peru) on a scoring strike at 47:35, 1-0. On their very next shot, just less than three minutes later, junior forward
Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Colombia) stripped a Cougar defender and located
Robert Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) for another Griffin goal at 50:25, 2-0. From there, the Griffins kept the Cougars on their heels, limiting them to three shots in the period, and earning their fourth CACC shutout victory.
Jackson currently ranks first in the CACC for save percentage (.917), tied for second in wins (5), second in goals-against-average (0.48), and second in shutouts (5).
The men's soccer team breaks from CACC play for a trip to Lock Haven University on Tuesday, October 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
