Pizarro Deposits Game-Winner against Warriors, Earns Her Second CACC Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. – (10/21/2013) – Senior forward
Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) scored a goal in each of this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests, but it was her second score that served as the game-winner in Chestnut Hill College’s 2-0 victory over Nyack College on Saturday, October 19, and earned her a mention on the league’s Weekly Honor Roll.
Following annual Senior Day recognition, Chestnut Hill College (4-8-1, 4-4-1) pleased the home crowd with a 2-0 win over CACC rival, Nyack College. The Warriors controlled play in a scoreless opening period and actually took the period's first four shots, but a misplay in their backfield gave the Griffins a golden opportunity. Pizarro made good on the opportunity, scoring a cross from sophomore midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) at 55:36, 1-0. The Griffins remained on the offensive after the tally with junior midfielder
Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) consistently pressuring the Warrior goal until finally finding success in the 77th minute. Senior midfielder
Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) made the run to the Warrior endline before crossing the ball in front of the goal mouth, to Williams' oncoming foot, 2-0. The Warriors followed the second Griffin goal with a short reprise, but despite 12 shots in the frame they were unable to score before the final horn.
Pizarro is currently tied for eighth in the league for goals (5), tied for 12
th in assists (3), and seventh in overall points (13).
The women's soccer team will take a brief break from their CACC schedule to visit East Stroudsburg University for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Monday, October 21.
