Pauls Pulls First Mention On CACC Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (10/29/2013) – Junior goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) earned her first mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll with a combined 25 saves in Chestnut Hill College’s 0-3 week against East Stroudsburg University, Holy Family University, and Bloomfield College. She held both the Warriors and Deacons to one goal apiece while recording 20 saves in the week’s bookend contests. She currently leads the CACC in saves with 134.
On Monday, October 21, the Chestnut Hill College (4-11, 4-6-1) defense withstood a barrage of shots from East Stroudsburg University, but the offense did not keep their end of the deal as Pauls could only postpone the Warriors to a 1-0 win. The home side issued 30 shots with 12 meeting Pauls and the rest sailing high or wide, before one Warrior strike snuck through in the 31st minute.
Holy Family University struck twice in the opening six minutes of the Griffins CACC contest on Wednesday, October 23, and outscored Chestnut Hill College 3-2 in the closing frame for a 5-2 league win. The Tigers added to their 2-0 halftime lead just 20 seconds after intermission, only for senior forward
Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) and senior midfielder
Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) to cut the gap to one, before two more home scores left the Griffins with the loss. Pauls made five saves in the loss.
Pauls atoned for the Griffins poor showing against the Tigers with an eight-save performance in a tight 1-0 loss at Bloomfield College on Saturday, October 26. The Deacons used an early score to sneak by the Griffins, who held the advantage in shots, 24-17, and corner kick opportunities, 5-1.
The women's soccer team returns home to host Goldey-Beacom College in their season finale on Tuesday, October 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
