DiGiovanni and Pauls Place on CACC Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (10/1/2013) – Helping the Chestnut Hill College women’s soccer team to a 1-1 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition, senior forward
Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) and junior goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) both earned mention on this week CACC Women’s Soccer Honor Roll. DiGiovanni offered a goal and an assist in the Griffins 2-1 win over Dominican College, while Pauls totaled 20 saves including 14 against the Lady Chargers.
From the opening kick each side took turns serving balls downfield, but it was Georgian Court University that eventually broke the Chestnut Hill College (2-4-1, 2-1-1) defenses for a 3-0 CACC win. Pauls stopped the first couple Lion shots, but after the first goal at 29:01, 1-0, and an unlucky goal at 39:04, the Griffins found themselves facing a 2-0 halftime deficit. Unfortunately, the Lions favor continued in the second half as they extended their lead to 3-0 on a corner kick at 57:17 and limited the Griffins to only five second-half shots. Pauls totaled six saves in the loss (1-4-1).
Against the Lady Chargers, DiGiovanni capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity at 36:06 to tie the contest 1-1 before finding senior defender
Lauren Nolte (Wilmington, Del.) for a second Griffin goal at 37:15, 2-1. After halftime, Pauls denied them any chance of a comeback with 11 second-half saves.
DiGiovanni is currently tied for league lead in scoring (5 goals) while pacing the conference in total points (11). Pauls is currently the CACC leader in saves (72), while carrying a .791 save percentage and a 2.56 goals-against-average (GAA).
The women’s soccer team remains at home, but takes brief leave of their CACC schedule to host Dowling College in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, October 3.
