New Haven, Conn. – (11/11/2013) – Graduate guardÂ
Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) was one of a couple newcomers who impressed an enthusiastic home crowd and inspired Chestnut Hill College to a 68-62 victory over Bloomsburg University in tonight's season opener. For his effort, he was recognized CACC’s first Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. Trevisan totaled 19 points on a 6-of-11 (.545) shooting performance while hustling to nine rebounds and a steal in the victory.   Â
Â
Chestnut Hill College (1-0) took the early advantage and eventually had to rally for a 32-27 halftime lead before putting the Huskies away in the second half. Between Trevisan, junior forwardÂ
Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro), and sophomore forwardÂ
Noel Hightower (Easton, Pa.), Bloomsburg University was left chasing the Griffins through a majority of the first half. The Griffins defended the opening tip-off and hustled out to a 7-0 (16:35) lead before the Huskies could catch their breath. The tide turned when sophomore guard Wes Lyons (Millville, Pa.) and senior guard Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport, Pa.) energized the visitor effort with a three-minute stretch that wore on Griffins and ended on a three pointer from senior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown, Pa.), 19-17 (7:06). The Huskies lead would equal the Griffins initial edge, 27-20 (4:06), before the Griffins greenhorns, Trevisan and Sekulic, inspired the home team to a 12-0 closing run, 32-27. The Griffins would hold onto their advantage for the first five minutes of the second half, before allowing the contest to tie only once, 39-39 (14:57), before Trevisan put the home team back on the right path with 11 points in the final five minutes.

The men’s basketball team plays next on Tuesday, November 12, when they visit Wagner College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
