Career Afternoon Earns Townsend-Mobley CACC Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. – (1/13/2014) – With the best production of her collegiate career to date, junior guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) garnered a mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll. Townsend-Mobley averaged 18.5 points-per-game (PPG) and 3.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG) in a 1-1 week of CACC competition that saw her post a career-high 27 points in a 66-63 win at Georgian Court University on Saturday, January 11.

A stingy Chestnut Hill College (3-12, 1-7) defense offset Georgian Court University’s (3-10, 2-5) 30-17 first-half rebounding advantage as an aggressive, yet careless, Lion attack was never able to lead the Griffins by more than eight points, 21-13 at 5:27, in the opening half. When they did, the Griffins went to junior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) and senior forward Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) to answer the challenge. The one-two punch accounted for 11 of the Griffins last 14 points in the period, an spurred them for a 14-4 run that was capped by a three-point basket from sophomore guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and gave them a 27-25 lead with six seconds to play (0:06). The Lions managed to convert a last-second basket to knot the score for halftime, 27-27 (0:00), but in the closing frame an early Groczynski three pointer was followed by a heavy dose of Townsend-Mobley that inspired the Griffins to a 47-40 advantage midway through the half (10:10) and an eventual three-point triumph. Townsend-Mobley finished 9-of-17 (.412 FG%) from the floor and 9-of-9 (1.000 FT%) from the line in her career performance. She also recorded two rebounds, assists, and steals in the effort.

In Wednesday night’s contest, a controlling first-half effort by the University of Sciences (USciences) ruled both ends of the floor in a 60-36 CACC final. Townsend-Mobley joined Gorczynski as the only two Griffins in double figures, as she totaled ten points on 3-of-6 (.500) shooting from the floor and a 4-of-5 (.800) showing at the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds.

For the season, Townsend-Mobley is averaging 8.3 PPG and 5.5 RPG while recording 16 assists, a block, and 14 steals over 15 contests.

The women's basketball team returns home to host Goldey-Beacom College in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest on Tuesday, January 14.
