Bouie and Gorzynski Garner CACC Recognition For Roles in Win over Lightning
New Haven, Conn. – (1/20/2014) – Chestnut Hill College senior center
Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) recorded eight blocks, seven in the second half, and junior guard
Olivia Gorczynskii (Parlin, N.J.) knocked down five three pointers, two in the final two minutes, in the Griffins 49-47 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Goldey-Beacom College. For their efforts, Bouie and Gorczynski were recognized by the league as the women’s basketball Defensive Player of the Week and an Honorable Roll mention, respectively.
After leading for most of the first half, Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 2-7) went the final four minutes of the frame without scoring a bucket. As a result, Goldey-Beacom College (7-9, 4-5) took an 18-16 lead into the locker rooms. The Lightning lead lingered for most of the second half as senior forward
Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) and Gorczynski helped Bouie, seven second-half blocks, keep the Lightning in a bottle. With 3:20 remaining, Farrow brought the Griffins within two points, 43-41, but it would not be until after a few fruitless changes of possession and a home time out that Coach Pruitt implemented the perfect inbound play, at 1:52, to find Gorczynski open for the first of two timely three-point baskets, 44-43. The second Gorczynski trifecta answered a Lighting layup just before the one-minute mark, 47-45 (1:07), but Lightning tied the contest for the last time at 0:42, when junior forward Chelsea Grover (Southampton, N.J.) brought all things even at 47-47. Fortunately, junior guard
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) managed to play hero once again, hitting the contest’s winning jump shot with 31 seconds remaining (0:31), 49-47.
Gorczynski hit 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc, 5-of-12 (.417) from the floor, and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line in her team-leading 17-point performance. She also recorded two assists and a steal while Bouie contributed six points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and eight blocks. Gorczynski currently leads the Griffins in scoring (14.5 points-per-game) while also serving as the league leader in three-pointer made (41-of-124, .331). Bouie ranks second in the CACC for blocks (38) while providing the Griffins with 5.3 PPG, 6.8 rebounds-per-game (RPG), 11 assists, and six steals.
The women’s basketball team continues their CACC schedule at Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, January 25, when the visit the Clippers for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
