Melnychenko Earns ECC Honor Roll Mention For Game against Defending National Champs Â

 Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) recorded four goals on eight shots and recovered two ground balls to lead Chestnut Hill College in a 13-8 season-opening loss to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II National Champion, Le Moyne College. He was recognized on the East Coast Conference (ECC) Weekly Honor Roll for his effort.

Melnychenko got Chestnut Hill College (0-1) the initial lead of the contest less than two minutes after the opening faceoff (13:52). Le Moyne College (2-0) answered a little more than a minute later (12:40) and sized a 2-1 advantage before the end of the first quarter, but a late Dolphin penalty allowed a Melnychenko man-up tally to tie the contest, 2-2, at 14:29 of the second quarter. Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) delivered the Griffins a 3-2 advantage with 11:34 remaining in the first half. As play approached the six-minute mark, however, the Dolphins took charge, rattling off five consecutive scores to control a 7-3 halftime advantage. Despite two more Melnychenko scores coming in the second half, the damage done with the Dolphins leaving Drexel University’s Vidas Field with a five-goal win, 13-8.

The men’s lacrosse team plays next on Saturday, March 1, when they welcome Seton Hill University to Victory Field #1 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
