Gorczynski Steals League’s Defensive Player of the Week Award
New Haven, Conn. – (3/3/2014) – Junior guard
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) appeared on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report for the fourth time this season, this time earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award for a four-steal effort that kept the Griffins on the Tigers heels in a 66-57 loss at Holy Family University.
In another tight contest with Holy Family University (17-9, 15-4), Chestnut Hill College (8-18, 6-13) shot well, 44.0% (22-of-50), but lost ground on the Tigers with a 44-33 rebounding deficit and 20 turnovers. From the backcourt,
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) dominated the Griffins first half effort, scoring 12 of her 16 points in a 27-25 halftime spread. After the break Gorczynski took over for the Griffins, scoring 11 of her 17 points and keeping them ahead of Tigers as late as 7:26, 50-49, in the second half. But turnovers led to a late Tiger push that settled the season finale in the home team’s favor, 66-57.
Gorczynski recorded two steals in each half while hitting 4-of-7 (57.1) from beyond the arc to lead the Griffins with 17 points, four rebounds, an assist, and four steals. She previously earned recognition on the CACC Weekly Report as an Honor Roll mention for the weeks ending November 10, 2013, December 1, 2013, and January 19, 2014.
