Herbert Secures Second CACC Rookie of the Week Award New Haven, Conn. - (4/1/2014) – Freshman midfielder
Alicia Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) earned her second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week award, this time solely claiming the title with six goals, an assist, a ground ball, three draws, and three caused turnovers in loss to St. Thomas Aquinas College and Georgian Court University.
Through wind and rain Chestnut Hill College battled Georgian Court University in a tightly played Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) affair on Saturday, March 29. Freshman midfielder
Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) triggered a five-goal run that included an assist and two goals from Herbert, who first found freshman midfielder
Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) before following a free position goal from sophomore midfielder
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) with two of her own at 13:56 and 13:04, 5-3. Unfortunately, the Lions answered with the last four goals of the period, 7-5. In the second half goals were harder to come by as the winds intensified at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The Griffins got the first, when freshman midfielder Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) deposited an unassisted goal at 25:34, 7-6. But the Lions answered less than four minutes later and scored the game-winner at 3:19 before running out the clock on a 9-8 win. Herbert finished the contest with three goals, an assist, a draw, and two caused turnovers.
Scoring the first eight goals of Thursday, March 27, afternoon's contest, St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) first owned an 11-2 halftime lead before defeating Chestnut Hill College 19-8. Herbert led four Griffins who found goal; she registered three tallies while recovering a ground ball, collecting two draws, and causing a turnover.
The women's lacrosse team visits Caldwell College on Wednesday, April 2, to continue their CACC schedule with a 12:00 p.m. opening draw.
