Trabosh Claims CACC Weekly Defensive HonorÂ
New Haven, Conn. - (9/15/2014) – Averaging 6.42 digs-per-set (d/s) over six matches that produced a 3-3 overall record and a 1-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standing last week, sophomore libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) was recognized with the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award.
Â
After losing their home opener on Tuesday, September 9, to West Chester University, 3-0 (26-28, 10-25, 20-25), and dropping their CACC opener at Wilmington University, 3-0 (14-25, 25-27, 16-25), the next night, Wednesday, September 10, Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 1-1) won both matches at a home tri-match on Friday, September 12, before splitting two matches at Mercy College on Saturday, September 13. Trabosh totaled 122 digs over the course of the week with her best performance coming in the Griffins 3-1 (17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-20) home victory over St. Anselm College.
Â
At the outset of the second match on Friday, September 12, it appeared as though the Griffins had met their match in Saint Anselm College (3-2). The Hawks stole the opening set 25-17 and knotted the second set at 24-24 before the Griffins took control. Junior outside hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) and sophomore outside hitter
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) provided the frame’s winning kills off the feed of junior setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.), who directed the Griffin offense to wins of 25-16 and 25-20 in the final two sets of the evening. She finished with 37 assists, helping Biro and McBride to 16 kills and 14 kills, respectively. Trabosh’s 24 digs captained a great defensive effort that included seven blocks from freshman middle hitter
Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.).
Â
In 2013, Trabosh led the league in digs (program-record 624) and digs per set (5.38 d/s, 24th NCAADII) en route to an All-CACC Second Team nod and six Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

The women’s volleyball team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 16, when they host Goldey-Beacom College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
