Jaffe and Jackson Capture CACC’s Weekly Honors for Play Versus Lions and Eagles

New Haven, Conn. - (9/16/2014) – Despite consistent downpour, senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) controlled play in Chestnut Hill College’s 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over #25 Post University on Saturday, September 13. The same two Griffins were responsible for a league tie that came earlier in the week, 1-1 (2OT) on Tuesday, September 9, at Georgian Court University. For their efforts, Jaffe and Jackson were respective recognized as the league’s top Player and Defensive Player of the Week.

In a physical league contest on Tuesday, September 9, Georgian Court University (0-1-2, 0-0-1) and Chestnut Hill College (0-2-1, 0-0-1) exchanged attacks for the opening 80 minutes of play. At 81:11, Jaffe completed a pass from senior forward Channing Couillard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) with a mighty strike that delivered the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. But the Griffins were robbed of a crucial league win when junior defender Kevin Isvanditsch (Toms River, N.J.) set up a dramatic game-tying tally for sophomore forward Michael Clarke (Essex, U.K.), 1-1. In the extra frames, the contest remained tied despite several desperate assaults from Jaffe and company, who outshot the home team 5-2 in the final 20 minutes of overtime. Jaffe led a 16-10 shot advantage with five strikes while Jackson made four saves.

After a scoreless first half with Post University (1-2, 0-1) on Saturday, September 13, Jaffe dominated the early second half action. He first found senior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Columbia) with a serve to right wing at 64:22, 1-0, then scored two goals of his own with a rocket shot off a pass of junior midfielder Matthew Casaletto (Jewell, N.J.) at 69:08, 2-0, and magic corner kick that ricocheted off the side of the Post University (1-2, 0-1) goalkeeper at 75:45, 3-0.

The Eagles had the higher shot total with a 16-13 edge. Senior midfielder Mamadee Kamara led the effort with four attempts. Sophomore goalkeeper Serigne Baba Gaye (Centereach, N.Y.) took the loss (1-2) with four saves in the first 69:08. Fellow sophomore goalkeeper Jon Hanlon (Dekar, Senegal) made one save in the final 20:52. Jaffe captained the Griffin effort with five shots, while Jackson made seven saves in his first shutout win of the season.

The men's soccer team breaks from the CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 16, when they host Bloomsburg University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
