Trabosh Repeats As League’s Top Defender Biro Earns Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. - (9/22/2014) – Captaining the defense during Chestnut Hill College’s recent winning streak, sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) earned her second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week award while junior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) was recognized on the league’s weekly Honor Roll. In three consecutive 3-0 wins, Trabosh averaged 7.33 digs-per-set (66 digs/9 sets) while Biro totaled a team-high 39 kills on a .231 (39K-15E-104TA) hitting percentage.

Chestnut Hill College (7-6, 2-1) played a spirited match on Tuesday evening as they fended off Goldey-Beacom College in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 26-24) CACC triumph over the Lightning. Biro continued to carry the front line with 13 kills (13K-7E, 35TA, .171), eight digs, and a block while Trabosh captained a defensive effort that held the Lightning to a .068 (33K-23E-146TA) hitting percentage with a season-high 26 digs.

Two days later, on Thursday, September 18, the Griffins found themselves trailing the Knights in both the first, 13-9, and third, 10-2, sets at Queens College. But by the end of the night the Griffins extended their recent win streak to three straight, and five of their last six, defeating the Knights by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22) final. Biro led the Griffins with 15 points coming on 13 kills (13K-6E-38TA, .184) and four block assists while Trabosh offered an assist, an ace, and 22 digs.

The Griffins continued their winning ways with their fourth straight 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-21) victory coming in Saturday afternoon's match against Salem International University. The Griffins controlled the match from the opening serve, but needed to pull away midway through each set to defeat the Tigers. Biro once again headlined the victorious effort with 13 kills on a .355 (13K-2E-31TA) hitting percentage. Trabosh totaled 18 digs while also providing a kill and two assists.

The women's volleyball team returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with their next match; a 7:00 p.m. contest versus Philadelphia University on Wednesday, September 24.
