Jaffe and Jackson Remain On CACC Weekly Men’s Soccer Report

New Haven, Conn. - (9/22/2014) – Senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) dawned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Men’s Soccer Report for the second straight week after leading the Griffins to a 1-1 week that included a 3-0 league triumph over Felician College. Both served as Honor Roll mentions as Jaffe played a role in each Griffin goal, while Jackson earned his second shutout of the season with the win over the Golden Falcons.

Just three days after a stirring 3-0 shutout of CACC rival, #25 Post University, Chestnut Hill College (2-3-1, 2-0-1) looked to have carried that momentum over to Tuesday's (Sept. 16) game, grabbing a 1-0 advantage at the 4:57 mark when senior forward Juan Amaya (Cartagena, Columbia) blasted a left-footed shot to the top left corner after being sprung free on a breakaway by a beautiful long pass from Jaffe. Undeterred, Bloomsburg University (1-1-1) found its footing late in the first half, netting the equalizer at 29:16. Unfortunately, the Huskies won the affair 5-1 after netting a pair of goals on either side of the halftime break.

On Saturday, September 20, Jaffe continued his commanding play, having a foot in each goal of the Griffins 3-0 CACC victory over Felician College (0-7, 0-3). The Griffin captain started his latest stellar performance by assisting on the first goal of the season for senior forward Channing Couillard (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), who opened the scoring with a strike from the left corner of the box at 24:20, 1-0. Jaffe then eluded two Golden Flacon defenders in the box, deftly freeing himself to roof a left-footed strike at 68:34, 2-0. At the 83:25 mark he struck again, sending a pass across the box to the on-waiting left foot of Amaya, who completed the attack for a triumphant 3-0 advantage. Jackson made the only save he needed to in order to collect his second shutout of the season.

Jaffe, who now has four goals and four assists on the season (12 points), has had a foot in all but one of the Griffins nine goals to date. Jackson (2-2-1) has totaled 22 saves with a 0.94 goals-against-average (GAA) and .815 save percentage over five games played.

The men’s soccer team continues their CACC slate on Wednesday, September 24, with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Wilmington University.
