CACC Crowns Biro Player of the Week, Trabosh Earns Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. – (10/6/2014) – Junior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) turned in the best performance of her collegiate career, providing 25.5 points while leading Chestnut Hill College to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-8) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Felician College. She finished the week with 37.5 points, totaling 34 kills on a .360 (34K-7E-75TA) hitting percentage and recording seven block assists to earn the league’s Player of the Week award. Sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) appeared on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 7.14 digs-per-set (d/s) in the Griffins 2-0 week of CACC play.

Chestnut Hill College (10-8, 5-2) used the momentum of a 27-25 opening-set victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-14 win in the second set against the University of the Sciences (USciences). USciences (1-6, 0-4) provided a little more competition in the third set, delaying the Griffins to a 25-20 win. A 20-kill performance from sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) was complemented by Biro, who offered 11 kills and two block assists to the winning effort.

Just four days later, Biro ensured the Griffins their sixth straight home victory with a career performance against Felician College (5-6, 3-4). On a day when the Griffins honored Alexandra DePalma '14, who in last year's season finale become the first player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill milestone, Biro followed in her former teammate's footsteps by recording kills on three of the first four points scored in a 25-17 opening-set win. The Griffins captured the second set by the same score, 25-17, and held a 21-16 advantage in the third set before the Golden Falcons rallied for eight straight points in a 25-23, third-set win, 2-1. Leading 8-7 in the fourth set, the Griffins turned on the jets, winning 17 of the next 18 points to put the Golden Falcons away, 25-8.

Biro, whose previous career mark was 16 kills (established three times), finished the afternoon with 23 kills on a .309 (23K-6E-55TA) hitting percentage. She totaled 25.5 points, adding five block assists to her impressive offensive performance. She currently ranks second in the conference in kills (213) and kills-per-set (3.61 k/s).

Trabosh totaled 50 digs between the two conference victories. She recorded 18 digs and two assists in the win over the Devils before providing a kill, six assists, an ace, and 32 digs in the four-set win over the Golden Falcons. She currently leads the league in digs (354) and digs-per-set (6.00 d/s).
