Spinuzza’s Breakout Game Earns Mention On League’s Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (10/14/2014) – Junior midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) turned in the best game of her career in the Griffins 6-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, October 11, netting her first collegiate hat-trick and adding an assist for a seven-point morning. For her efforts, Spinuzza was rewarded with her first selection to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

Playing a rare 10:00 a.m. contest, Chestnut Hill College (2-9, 2-5) wasted little time jumping on top of Concordia College (0-7-1, 0-6), riding the combination of Spinuzza and fellow junior midfielder Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) to a quick lead on a rainy morning. Fedora found Spinuzza with a cross through the box, and Spinuzza fired home a right-footed shot for her first goal of the season at 4:11, 1-0.

Next came a stretch of three goals in less than five minutes that put the game away for the Griffins. Freshman forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) scored from just outside the box off a touch pass by senior midfielder Lauren Bjorke (Sinking Spring, Pa.) at 20:46, 2-0. Less than 90 seconds later (22:04), Fedora and Spinuzza connected again, with Spinuzza volleying home a perfect cross from Fedora at the far post, 3-0. Spinuzza’s second goal came shortly thereafter (25:24), as the junior outran a Clippers defender to a ball in the offensive end and calmly found the back of the net on a shot from just inside the box, 4-0.

Spinuzza completed her hat trick, the first by a Griffin since Carly DiGiovanni ’14 scored three times against the Clippers in 2012, at 78:24, when she cleaned up the rebound off a powerful shot by sophomore Alissa Battaglia (Merrick, N.Y.), 6-0.

Spinuzza finished with a career-high seven points, the most by a Chestnut Hill College player since Kaelyn Pizarro ’14 recorded seven in an 8-0 rout of Lincoln University on October 4, 2010. Spinuzza entered Saturday’s contest with eight career points (two goals and four assists).

The Griffins return to CACC play on Wednesday, October 15, when they welcome Holy Family University to Victory Field #1 for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
