Hannah Hills (Maize, KS), who was named the league’s Rookie of the Week, and junior
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario).
Williams-Mulesa went a perfect 4-0 and Hills was 3-1 in a 2-0 week for the Griffins. Chestnut Hill College (5-2, 5-1) played from a position of power against Philadelphia University after earning the match's first two points with identical 8-2 wins at number one and number two doubles, 2-0. Williams-Mulesa teamed with junior
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) in the second flight. Philadelphia University (10-3, 4-3) gave themselves a good opportunity to upset the Griffins with an 8-6 win at number three doubles, 2-1.
But it was not enough to derail the Griffins, who quickly turned the tables with wins at number six, five, and one singles. Hills scored the first of those points with her 6-0, 6-1, win in the sixth flight, 3-1. Williams-Mulesa won her individual match by a final of 6-1, 6-3, in between the Lady Rams only singles successes at number three, 6-2, 6-0, and number four singles, 6-2, 7-5.
Against West Chester University, Chestnut Hill College (6-2) separated for their 8-1 victory with a sweep of singles play. Following wins at number two doubles, 8-0, by Williams-Mulesa and Owens, and number three doubles, 8-2, by Hills and junior
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.), the Griffins surrendered a 9-7 number-one doubles loss before putting West Chester University (2-1) away behind six straight singles wins. Williams-Mulesa was the first to score with her 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at number two singles. Senior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at number three singles while Owens finished close behind her with a 2-6, 6-0, 10-7, triumph at number four singles. Hills and Dawson won the Griffins next two points with Hills taking the sixth singles flight, 6-1, 6-3, and Dawson taking number one singles 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 6-1.
The women’s tennis team prepares for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament with a 4:00 p.m. home match against Molloy College on Wednesday, October 15.
