Dennis and Shcherbakova Snag
CACC Weekly Recognition
New Haven, CT – (10/5/2010) – Freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) and sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) garnered recognition from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for their recent strong play. Leading Chestnut Hill College to wins over Philadelphia University and West Chester University, Dennis was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Week and Shcherbakova received an honorable mention for the Player of the Week award.
Dennis recorded two individual wins at number two singles for Chestnut Hill College (6-4. 4-2) this week. Additionally, she joined Shcherbakova for two doubles wins. Against Philadelphia University on September 29, Dennis recorded the first of two comeback victories at number two singles with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over freshman Sayre Limburg (New London, NH). In doubles, Dennis and Shcherbakova teamed for an 8-3 win in the number one match. The Griffins would defeat the Lady Rams for the first time in program history, 7-2.
Against West Chester University on October 2, Dennis won number two singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 over senior Luisi Souto (Caracas, Venezuela). She then joined Shcherbakova for an 8-5 win at number one doubles. The Griffins defeated the Golden Rams 6-3.
Dennis is 9-1 at number two singles and has combined with Shcherbakova for the same mark, 9-1 at number one doubles. Shcherbakova is 8-2 at number one singles.
The women’s tennis team heads to Holy Family University on Wednesday, October 6, when they continue their CACC schedule with a 4:00 p.m. match.
