Gorczynski Gets CACC Honor Roll Mention With Opening Weekend Play New Haven, Conn. - (11/17/2014) – For her effort in a pair of challenges against Northeast-10 (NE-10) opponents, Chestnut Hill College’s
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) was acknowledged on the Honor Roll of this year’s first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report. The Griffins senior guard averaged 23.5 points-per-game (PPG) while totaling eight rebounds and nine steals in losses to the College of St. Rose and American International College (AIC).
Chestnut Hill College (0-2) nearly dug out of a substantial hole against College of Saint Rose in Friday, November 14, evening’s season opener at Philadelphia University’s Gallagher Center. The Griffins cut a 13-point deficit to just two, 57-55, with 53 seconds remaining. As was the case for most of the night, however, they were unable to come up with late rebounds in a narrow 60-57 loss to the Golden Knights. Gorczynski poured in a game-high 22 points to spark the Griffins on second-half rally, going 7-of-18 (.389) from the field and 6-of-9 (.667) from the free throw line while recording five steals and two rebounds. Unfortunately, a 54-33 advantage on the glass, including 24 offensive rebounds, helped ensure the Golden Knights victory.
On Saturday, November 15, the Griffins found themselves leading by six in the first four minutes of their contest against AIC, with Gorczynski scoring every point of an opening 8-2 run. But, it was all Yellow Jackets after that, as they closed the first half on a 31-10 spurt and controlled a double-digit second-half edge that was never threatened in a 78-56 final. Gorczynski led all scorers for the second time in as many days, lighting up the scoreboard with 25 points on a 9-of-23 (.391) shooting clip that included four three-point baskets (4-of-13, .308) and was complimented by a 3-of-4 (.750) line at the charity stripe. She also recorded six rebounds and four steals.
The women’s basketball team continues their 2014-2015 non-conference schedule on Tuesday, November 18, when they travel to The Lincoln University for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
