Parriski Proves As Pride of Griffins Defense With CACC Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (12/22/2014) –
Playing bouncer in a 1-1 week for Chestnut Hill College, freshman forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) earned recognition on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly honor roll for totaling ten blocks and two steals while averaging six points and 12.5 rebounds-per-game.

Chestnut Hill College (3-7, 1-3) senior transfer Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.) scripted an impressive debut in Wednesday night’s league game versus Goldey-Beacom College, 14 points and nine rebounds, but she got plenty of help from her frontcourt partners. The forward trio of Turner, Parriski, and fellow freshman Brianne Morgera (Newport, R.I.) scored all but two of the first 16 points for the home side as the Griffins continually pounded the ball inside for easy buckets. Their effort allowed the Griffins hang with the Lightning early in the first half, as the home side trailed by a slim 21-16 (8:53) margin before the visitors broke out for a 41-25 halftime spread. They led by as many as 21 points, 46-25, less than two minutes into the second half (18:04) but a spirited second-half surge brought the Griffins back to within seven points, 52-45, at the midway point of the second half (10:00). Senior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) capped the 16-4 run with five straight points, including a three-pointer that brought the Griffins back to within single digits, unfortunately, after calling a timeout the Lightning scored the next nine points, 61-45, before separating for a 22-point win, 72-50, over the remaining six minutes (6:06). Parriski provided the best performance of her young career in the loss, recording her first double-double, 10 points and 12 rebounds, while totaling six blocks and a steal.

Her second brilliant performance of the week came in winning fashion as a sensational first-half outburst from Gorczynski laid the groundwork for Parriski’s suffocating second-half defense. Gorczynski got the Griffins off to a fast start, scoring the team's first 11 points en route to an early 15-5 advantage (11:55). Dowling College did make a push, overtaking the Griffins with 4:47 to play in the first half, 22-21, before the hosts recovered for a 31-28 halftime edge. The Golden Lions assumed their last lead early in the second half, 34-33 (15:46), as Parriski and the Griffin defense put a lid on the rim in a 22-7 closing run, 56-40. A force on the interior again, Parriski logged a career-best 13 rebounds to go along with two points, four blocks, and a steal.

The women’s basketball team takes a break for the holiday season before travelling to the University of Bridgeport for a 2:00 p.m. tip on Tuesday, December 30.
