Double-Double Bring Turner Mention On Weekly CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (1/19/15) – With only eight games under her belt as Chestnut Hill College Griffin, senior forward Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.) recently earned a mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll. Turner recorded double-doubles in last week’s CACC losses at Goldey-Beacom College, 86-75 on January 13, and Holy Family University, 74-56 on January 17, to average 19 points-per-game (PPG) and 13.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG) over the two-game span.

Freshman forward Brianne Morgera (Newport, R.I.) put in the hard work to earn Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 2-7) a 32-30 halftime edge on Goldey-Beacom College, yet despite the second-half efforts of Turner and senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.), the Griffins gave way to the Lightning in an 86-75 CACC final. Turner separated the Griffins for their largest lead of the game, 26-20, with 4:33 of first-half clock still available. But with the time remaining, the Lightning cut the halftime gap to two points, 32-30, before nearly shooting 60.0% from the floor (19-of-32, 59.4%) from the floor and nearly 70% (8-of-12, 66.7%) from the three-point line, in a second half where they grew the deficit to as many as 17 points, 73-56, before the final five minutes of play (4:49). A short Griffin reprise, led by senior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.), shortened the margin to as little as seven points, 80-73, as late as the final thirty seconds (0:31), but in the end the final settled in the Lightning’s favor; 86-75.

Turner came off the bench to score 14 points and six rebounds of her double-double in the second half. She finished the evening with 17 points and 12 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season, and second in as many games.

She continued her double-digit streak on Saturday, January 17, in the Griffin next CACC game at Holy Family University. The Griffins found themselves playing "catch up" for the full 40 minutes of the afternoon, as the Tigers led the Griffins from the opening tip in a 74-56 CACC final. Turner scored a season-high 21 points en route to her third consecutive double-double (14 rebounds), but her effort was not enough to keep pace with the Tigers, who placed three scorers in double figures and out-rebounded the Griffins 43-34 for their seventh league win.

Turner hit half the shots she took as she was 10-of-20 (50.0%) from the field and 1-of-2 (50.0%) from the free throw line in her highest scoring performance of the season. She also factored in defensively with ten of her rebounds and four steals earning the Griffins extra possessions during her 37 minutes.

The women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena next Saturday, January 24, for a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest against Concordia College (NY).
