Double-Doubles Deal Turner CACC Player of the Week Title

New Haven, Conn. - (2/2/2015) – Bringing her double-double streak to six contests, senior forward Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J.) averaged 21.5 points-per-game (PPG) and 14.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG) to help Chestnut Hill College to a split of last week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. For her effort, she was recognized as the CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

On Thursday, January 29, Turner first contributed her season’s-best in a narrow 75-67 league loss to Wilmington University (Del.); 22 points, 16 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal, before recording 21 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a 20-point, 70-50, CACC triumph at Dominican College (NY).

Wilmington University pushed the tempo of Thursday night's CACC contest against Chestnut Hill College (6-13, 4-8) every chance it got. The Wildcats' breakneck pace paid dividends to the tune of a 20-2 advantage in fast-break points, enough to secure a 75-67 victory inside Sorgenti Arena. Turner went off for career highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds, but her fifth consecutive double-double ultimately was not enough to stem the tide. Her 16 rebounds were the most rebounds by a Griffin in a single game since Andrea Carter ‘07 collected 17 caroms against Cazenovia College in the 2006-2007 season finale. She was 6-of-12 (50%) from the field and 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the foul line.

Turner continued her string of impressive performances in the Griffins very next contest as Chestnut Hill College used some hot three-point shooting and a dominant effort on the glass to stampede to a 70-50 CACC victory at Dominican College (NY) on Saturday afternoon. Turner rolled up game highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds, extending her streak of double-doubles to six while the Griffins won on the Lady Chargers home floor for the first time and snapped a six-game road losing streak behind a game-deciding run that began midway through the second half.

In 11 contests with the Griffins, Turner ranks second on the team in scoring (14.3 PPG) and leads the roster in rebounding (10.7 RPG) while totaling 12 assists, seven blocks, and 17 steals. She has achieved seven double-doubles in all, averaging 19.0 PPG and 13.0 RPG over the recent six-game streak.

The women’s basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday, February 4, to host intra-city rival University of the Sciences (USciences) in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
