Hampton and Regalin Lead as Griffin Doubles Deal Damage at Ranger Invitational                                                                                        Â

Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) and freshman
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) each finished the Ranger Invitational with 5-1 records to lead Chestnut Hill College to a 14-10 singles standing and a 9-2 doubles finish at weekend’s end. For their efforts they were respectively honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with an Honor Roll mention and the league’s Rookie of the week award.

Saturday's first serves went off at 9:00 a.m. and the last were fired off late into the night as Chestnut Hill College broke a four months pause in their 2014-2015 schedule with the first of two days of play at the Ranger Invitational. The crusade began with a set of singles matches against the Hawks of Roger Williams University, who could only win three of eight flights against the mighty Griffins. Hampton and Regalin earned two of them with respective 6-3, 6-4, and 6-4, 6-4 wins.

Before another set of individual matches against Wilkes University, the Griffins paired off for a series of double matches against the Rangers. The Griffins swept the competition, scoring 8-1 victories in all three team matches; Regalin won the top flight with
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) while Hampton and junior
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) were the third triumphant Griffin duo.

The long day concluded with four wins in seven matches against the hosting Rangers. Hampton was the first Griffins end his day, as he won the fifth flight by a 6-2, 6-4 final while Regalin pulled out a 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 comeback in his singles flight.

For the Griffins, the second day of competition began with a round of doubles play against Roger Williams University. Chestnut Hill College swept the team play versus the Hawks as Regalin teamed with Bocaletto to lead off the doubles series with an 8-5 triumph over junior Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) and senior Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.). Henry Boyle (London England) followed with an 8-3 win over seniors Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.J.) and Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) before the Griffins swept the remainder of the series.

Next on the Griffins agenda was a set of doubles matches versus Wilkes University. Regalin and Bocaletto were victorious once again, defeating juniors Max Appello (Sparta, N.J.) and Michael Kranz (Depew, N.Y.) by an 8-3 final. But the Colonels would break up the Griffins perfect doubles weekend with seniors Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, Pa.) and Steven Wilson (Bronx, N.Y.) stealing an 8-3 win from Boyle and Hampton and later an 8-3 triumph by sophomore Troy Haas (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and freshman Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, Pa.).

The invitational ended with a series of singles matches against the Maccabees. The Griffins won five of eight matches from Yeshiva University, receiving individual victories from Hampton, Atri, Taylor, Awad, and Jaeger.

Now headed for warmer weather in Florida, the men’s tennis teams next joins the women’s for a dual match at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) on Monday, February 23.
