Big Games Warrant ECC Laurels for Klusaritz, FisherÂ
Central Islip, N.Y. - (3/2/2015) – The Chestnut Hill men’s lacrosse team came back from a Spring Break trip to North Carolina with a 17-9 victory over Wingate University in hand. Thanks to some impressive performances, a pair of Griffins brought some hardware home with them, as freshman attack
Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after offering his first career hat trick and an assist in a 17-9 rout. Junior attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) merited an Honor Roll mention after posting career highs of six points and five goals.
Â
The February 22 contest at Wingate University started with a rush of Chestnut Hill College scoring and, despite a brief first-quarter retort, the Griffins continued on to defeat the Bulldogs by a 17-9 final. Junior attackÂ
George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) recorded an assist and two goals in the Griffins 6-3 first quarter; he finished as the team leader with a career-best six points (three goals and three assists).
Fisher and Klusaritz connected for the game's first goal just 50 seconds after freshman midfielder
Brian Sinex (Holmes, Pa.) won Chestnut Hill College (1-1) the opening faceoff, 1-0 (14:10). A little more than three minutes later, Markey found Klusaritz, 2-0 (10:41), and Sinex found Markey to push the Griffins initial advantage to 3-0. It reached 4-0 a minute later (9:30), when Fisher set up Klusaritz for his second goal. The Bulldogs barked back just after the eight-minute mark (7:52) and added two more goals, the second man-up, to bring the margin to one with 2:56 remaining, 4-3. But a trio of unassisted goals spanned the first-and-second quarter gap to reestablish the Griffin advantage at 7-3 (13:54). After that the Bulldogs never got within less than two goals, trailing the Griffins to a 17-9 final in the programs’ first-ever meeting.

Klusaritz and Fisher each added three ground balls to their spectacular efforts. Â

The Griffins next welcome College of Saint Rose to Victory Field #1 for their home opener on Tuesday, March 3. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
