Pizarro Warrants Rookie Award, Riiff Earns
Honorable Mention on CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, CT – (10/11/2010) – A natural hat-trick in Chestnut Hill College’s 8-0 defeat of Lincoln University powered freshman forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ) to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week title. She is the third Griffin newcomer to be recognized with the league’s rookie award. Junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) was also recognized for her play with an honorable mention for the week’s top leaguer performer.
Pizarro exploded for a natural hat-trick in the first half against Lincoln University, powering Chestnut Hill College (10-2-2, 8-1-1) to an eventual 8-0 win over the Lions on October 4. After an opening goal from freshman forward Brittany Boles (Broomall, PA), Pizarro recorded the next three Griffin tallies in the 8-0 triumph. Pizarro has totaled four goals and an assists to lead all Griffin rookies with nine points. She follows fellow freshmen Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) and Lauren Nolte (Wilmington, DE) as a CACC Rookies of the Week.
Three more wins for the Griffins and nine more points for Riiff in the week ending October 10. She recorded at least one point in each this week’s contests; first netting two goals at the tail end of the first half against Lincoln University, then scoring the final goal a win over Philadelphia University on October 7, and finishing with the game-winner and an assist on an insurance goal against Felician College on October 9. Riiff headlines the Griffins season box score with team-leading totals of ten goals, four assists, 24 points, 47 shots, and four game-winning-goals.
The women’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 12, when the host Wilmington University in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the Chestnut Hill College Campus Field.
